It’s the biggest day in the LGFA calendar and every Pats girl is buzzing in support of their heroes on the pitch. As the excitement increases ahead of the 16h15 throw-in, we thought we’d let you know our own great news!

We are proud and delighted to have been awarded the 20 x 20 flag.

The 20×20 campaign was about creating a cultural shift in the perception of girls and women in sport. There’s so much to celebrate when it comes to women’s sport in Ireland, but there wasn’t enough noise.

To qualify for the award, we had 3 targets to reach by the end of 2020:
20% more media coverage of women in sport
20% more female participation at player, coach, referee & administrative level
20% more attendance at women’s games and events

Here at Pats we’ve smashed those targets with LGFA being the fastest growing section of the club and our Camogie teams increasing year on year.

We’re grateful to a lot of people – seriously a lot of people - these awards don't just get handed out!
The mentors of all our teams who’ve thrown their support behind the cause, all our players who’ve embraced the new outlook, our players’ parents and friends who show up (where covid permitted) and follow on Social Media supporting all Pats teams across the board and our referees who’ve upped their skills to learn Gaelic Football, Hurling, LGFA & Camogie.

Our Chairperson Fergal Power is pictured here at the launch of the flag with Ava Walsh, Caragh McDonald, Jessie Walsh, Erin Finn & Lucy Sheridan. Fergal who came in as Chair this year was delighted to receive the award on behalf of the Club. “It’s reflective of the drive and desire of the Girls’ section and the fantastic progress being made as the LGFA & Camogie squads go from strength to strength.”

We wish the Dubs every success on the pitch. We’d be lying if we didn’t admit to being disappointed not to be able to do the trip to Croker en masse as has now become a Pats tradition. But our Pats crew are there in their pods and they’ll be supporting just as loud.

We look forward to better days when we’re all in it together again. Ní neart go cur le cheile. Meanwhile we remain as effusively #ProudToBePats as ever – if not just a little teeny more so today!
